How Redvespa connected people to create better ways of working, with significant benefits.
The alliance responsible for designing and constructing a significant $630 million infrastructure project were experiencing challenges with getting some of their important planning documents approved in time.
It was taking more than 90 days for construction methods, inspection & testing, and health & safety plans to be approved. Pressure on project delivery meant construction activities couldn’t be delayed and were proceeding at risk without approved plans. Rework was often needed creating delays and cost overruns.
There were no standard ways of working and things were inefficient and ineffective.
Needing Business Analysts who were pragmatic, flexible, and experts at process design, the alliance reached out to Redvespa.
Redvespa designed an approach using low-fidelity rapid prototyping, observations, and workshops to support the alliance design standard ways of working.
Prototypes were designed, tested, and refined. Once the engineering team had given the thumbs up, Redvespa worked with the digital partners to implement workflows in the document management system, enabling inspection and quality documentation to be captured out on site, in real-time.
Through the new pathway, the time to approval was reduced from 90+ days to fewer than five days.
The standard ways of working brought clarity to the alliance engineers and their subcontractors. Everyone was clear about what was expected of them.
Cost savings from the efficiency gains were estimated at approximately $38 million dollars. A significant amount, and about 6% of the total project budget.
